A monthly update of recently added, under construction, and completed projects in the Alberta Major Projects Inventory.

Calgary Arena and Events Centre -

Lloydminster Wastewater Treatment Facility -
The project involves constructing a mechanical wastewater treatment facility near the existing wastewater lagoons to establish a modernized efficient system. The project is being funded through municipal, federal, and joint provincial bodies.

High Level Wood Pellet Plant -
Pinnacle Renewable Energy has entered into a limited partnership agreement with Tolko Industries to construct a wood pellet plant. Upon completion, it will produce 170,000 to 200,000 metric tons of wood pellets per year.

Ravines of Royal Oak -
Construction of 96 townhome style units, to be known as Ravines of Royal Oak.

Contemporary Calgary Art Gallery -
$30-million project will renovate and transform the planetarium into a contemporary and modern art gallery, known as the Temporary Contemporary Calgary Art Gallery. KPMB Architects have been chosen to proceed with the design phase.

Centre 4800 Affordable Housing Project -
Conversion of an old hotel into an affordable housing project that will contain 79 studio, single-bedroom and two-bedroom units for vulnerable Calgary residents that require affordable housing.

City Hall and Churchill Square Upgrades -
The project will renovate Churchill square, and open a new fountain/skating rink in front of the building on the former pool site.

Edmonton South Soccer Centre Expansion -
The project will add a new indoor soccer pitch that will be attached to the west of the existing south soccer centre.

University of Alberta Hospital Connect Care Infrastructural Upgrades -
Infrastructure upgrades within the University of Alberta Hospital Campus to support Connect Care infrastructure. Details on the Connect Care program can be found in the link below.

Aspera Apartment Development -
Construction of a 4 storey, 85 unit apartment complex in the Griesbach neighbourhood.

Metis Crossing Cultural Center -
The new Metis Crossing Cultural Center will provide 10,000 ft2 of gathering spaces, meeting rooms, classrooms, exhibits and interpretive spaces to engage visitors on metis culture and history.

MANASC ISAAC are the Architects for the project.

Whitecourt Affordable Housing Project -
Construction of an affordable multi-family housing complex that will contain 56 affordable housing units. There will also be two commercial spaces intended to host a daycare and retail space.

Stony Plain Alliance Church -
Construction of a 26,500 square foot church that will be located on 5.5 acres of land off North Park Drive, north of Highway 16A.

Red Deer Homeless Shelter -
Construction of a 120-bed homeless shelter in Red Deer. Location is not yet known.

Secure Detoxification and Residential Treatment Facility -
Construction of a 10,000 square foot facility for residential treatment and detoxification.

Brule Community Hall Replacement -
Construction of an 8,500 square foot community hall to replace the ageing hall in Brule. The new hall will be able to accommodate events with up to 250 people.

@81 Mixed Use Development -
Mixed-use development located just south of Whyte Avenue, on 101 Street. The Development will convert an old single storey commercial building into a four-storey building with 36 apartments, and 6 retail bay with 11,000 square feet.

Township Retail Development Phase 1 -
Township shopping plaza will be approximately 1.5M square-feet of mixed-use buildings when fully developed. The proposed development will be host to various large and small retailers, restaurants and more.

Dr. Anne Anderson High School -
Construction of a two-story high school in the heritage valley area of south Edmonton. The high school will be able to accommodate 1,800 upon completion and will be able to handle an expansion to 2,400 students if required.

Huntsville School Replacement -
The project will work to replace the current Huntsville School, which was built in 1941. The new school will feature solar panels, an expanded gym, CTS space, and expanded classrooms.

Ecole Pere Kenneth Kearns Catholic School Modernization -
The project will work to renovate and modernize the nearly 30,000 square foot school that was built in 1967. There will also be a 6,500 square foot addition to the school to accommodate the nearly 250 students.

Roadwork - 20534 -
Roadwork to repave a section of Highway 670 from east of Highway 749 to Highway 750.

South Central Bike Lane Expansion -
Project to add protected bike lanes, and bike boulevards in the Old Strathcona / Garneau area. Bike lane expansion will happen in tandem with neighbourhood renewals.

Highway 43X - Grande Prairie Bypass -
This project, which is expected to take two years, will help alleviate traffic on Highway 43 through the city of Grande Prairie. It will reduce congestion and improve traffic flow and safety for travellers, local residents and businesses.

Sylvan Lake Wastewater Line -
Regional wastewater system phase 5 Sylvan Lake to County of Red Deer. Project will eliminate the discharge of municipal wastewater upstream of the plant.

The Windsor -
The 22,671 sf of net rentable main floor retail will be home to an organic grocer along with a mix of other value added retailers. Floors 2-6 will be made up of 104 luxury 1 and 2 bedroom rental units.

Calgary Centennial Planetarium Conversion -

BioWare Head Office Fit Up -
BioWare is relocating to the Epcor Tower in Downtown Edmonton. Renovation and fit up of floors 17 to 19 will include the addition of an internal staircase.
