David Knight Legg, Chief Executive Officer
A proven leader in foreign investment and international trade, David brings more than 20 years’ of experience in both private and public sector organizations to his role as the inaugural CEO of the Invest Alberta Corporation. Through the course of his work at McKinsey, a global management consulting firm; Gerson Lehrman Group, a capital markets advisory and research firm; and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia; he has gained significant executive experience with various boards and commissions.
David has lived, worked, and done business in key markets for Alberta, including the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia. He has also held numerous non-profit and advisory board positions ranging from Young Presidents Organization Pan-Asia chapter to the Sovereign Art Foundation.
Prior to joining the Invest Alberta Corporation, David’s role was Principal Advisor to the Premier of Alberta where his focus was on capital markets, investment, tax, sector diversification, Indigenous equity participation, and environmental, social and governance matters.
David did his undergraduate work at the University of Lethbridge and holds a Master’s of Public Administration from Queens University, a Master’s in Law from Oxford University, and a PhD from Yale University where he held several teaching fellowships.
Greg Baker, Vice President, International Markets
Greg joins the Invest Alberta Corporations with more than 20 years of experience advancing Alberta’s economic development interests abroad, including serving for nearly seven years as the Managing Director of the Government of Alberta’s office in Korea. In that role, he led a team focused on promoting Alberta as a premier investment and business development destination. Working closely with major Korean industry players, he provided cross-sector export development support for Alberta industry. Greg holds a Master of Communications and Technology degree from the University of Alberta.
Ron Hoffmann, Special Advisor, Asia-Pacific & Major Projects
Ron served as Alberta’s Senior Representative to the Asia Pacific Basin from 2014-2020. While in Hong Kong, he was elected Vice Chairman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce from 2016-2020. He spent more than 25 years in Canada’s diplomatic service. The roles he has held include Trade Commissioner, Director General of Strategic Policy, Senior Advisor to foreign ministers, and Ambassador. Ron served in six countries, on three continents, including China, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, South Africa, Afghanistan, and Thailand.
Dave Rodney, Senior Representative, Tourism Investment and Parks Liaison
During the initial development of the Invest Alberta Corporation, Dave served as Alberta’s Agent General to Houston. Prior to joining, Dave acted as President of SQ Enterprises, CEO of Tourism Canmore Kananaskis, and Senior Advisor to Alberta Counsel. As a four-term MLA, Dave served as the Associate Minister of Wellness, House Leader, and on various international committees. He has also served on Travel Alberta’s Strategic Tourism Marketing Council, and the Calgary Stampede Board. Dave earned his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education (AD) from the University of Saskatchewan, a Master of Education degree from Newman College, and is completing a Certified Destination Management Executive Credential.
Nick Hann, Senior Advisor, Infrastructure Investment
As an industry leader, Nick brings 30 years of experience in developing, structuring and investing in major infrastructure projects. Prior to joining the Invest Alberta Corporation, Nick was Head of Investments for the Canada Infrastructure Bank and served as Senior Managing Director of Macquarie Capital Markets Canada Ltd. Nick has acted as principal investor, asset manager, consortium bid director, financial advisor, debt arranger and government business advisor on projects across a wide range of sectors. Nick holds a Master of Economics and Politics degree from the University of Oxford.
Neeraj Gupta, Chief Advisor: Technology and Innovation Investments
Neeraj has more than two decades of experience in a variety of fields including technology, innovation management and intellectual property consulting, investments, emerging technologies, and product development. He has advised several provincial and federal governments in Asia and Europe on cross-border trade, investments, intellectual property, innovation, technology, and start-up ecosystems. He has authored a book on intellectual property, mentored more than 100 start-ups, and has been an angel investor. He holds Bachelor of Material Science degree from IIT (India), Master of Mathematics degree from KTH (Sweden), and PGPX from UCLA Anderson School of Management (USA) in General Management.
Garret Matteotti, Director of Fuels, Chemicals and Carbon Capture
Garret has considerable experience in the economic development sector working to attract large-scale downstream energy investments. Prior to joining Invest Alberta, Garret acted as Director, Business Development with Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association. With strong relationships throughout Alberta’s energy industry and experience working closely with international investors considering Canada, Garret is well suited to lead the fuel, chemical and carbon capture files.
Katarzyna (Kasha) Piquette, Director of Financial and Business Services Investment
Kasha has significant expertise in international markets and the provincial financial sector. With more than 20 years of experience, Kasha has advised international financial leaders regarding strategies to attract, secure, and retain local and global investment. Her prior roles include working at the National Bank of Canada, Barclays UK, Barclays Suisse SA, Barclays Dubai, and Scotiabank. Kasha holds an International MBA and Master of Marketing and Management degree from the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) and several professional designations including CFP, CIWM, FCSI and FEA.
Steve Kwasny, Director of Agriculture and Rural Initiatives
Steve has extensive experience in the public, non-profit, and private sectors, with a track record of building partnerships to solve complex challenges. He brings a background in public affairs, stakeholder engagement, business and fund development, and crisis management. Most recently, Steve managed the Public Affairs Advisory practice at the largest Canadian headquartered advisory firm.
Michelle Leslie, Director of Stakeholder Engagement , Eastern Canada
An international journalist and scientist, Michelle brings more than 15 years experience in both private and public sector organizations to her role including working in Canada’s nuclear industry and as a Canadian delegate to the IAEA. Prior to joining the Invest Alberta Corporation, Michelle worked for Natural Resources Canada on domestic and international policy issues; and as a journalist she covered business, energy and environmental issues for the CBC, The Boston Globe, Reuters and many others. An Alberta native, Michelle completed her undergraduate work at the University of Toronto and Mississippi State University and was awarded a Global Journalism Fellowship from the Munk School of Global Affairs.
Jordan Speakman, Senior Manager of Investment Programming
Jordan joined the Invest Alberta Corporation from the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS), where he started his started his career in the public service in 2006. From October 2014 until February 2020, Jordan joined the Government of Alberta (GOA) where he focused his efforts on trade promotion and investment attraction with Asia. While with the GOA, Jordan was able to lead numerous trade missions throughout Asia and helped to establish the Alberta Export Expansion Program. In February 2020, Jordan re-joined the TCS. Jordan holds an MBA degree from Queens University and a Bachelor of Management degree from the University of Lethbridge.
John Richardson, Research and Policy Analyst
John joins the Invest Alberta Corporation after having recently studied barriers to diversification in Alberta. In his previous positions, including with the United Kingdom House of Commons and Calgary Arts Development, John gained critical research and policy skills. John holds a Master of Comparative Politics degree from the London School of Economics.
Andrew Fisher, Director of Board and Corporate Communications
With more than 10 years working in communications and PR roles, Andrew joins Invest Alberta with deep experience in government advocacy, public affairs, and government relations. He has management experience in international trade, investment programming, and policy initiatives with the Government of Alberta. Andrew holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Communications degree from Royal Roads University.
Ada Javier, Director of Marketing
Ada brings over 15 years of B2B and B2C global marketing acumen to the Invest Alberta team. She has a track record of leading brand growth through insight-driven marketing strategies. Her areas of expertise span across tourism, energy, financial services, education, retail and manufacturing in North America, Asia and Europe. Most recently, Ada led consumer marketing initiatives at Travel Alberta, inspiring digitally connected international travelers to explore Alberta. Ada is a Canadian Advertising Accredited Professional (CAAP), holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts.
Alexandra Hryciw, Director of Executive Office
Prior to joining the Invest Alberta Corporation, Alex worked in the tech ecosystems of Edmonton and Calgary as the Director of Strategy at Innovate Edmonton and a founding member of the Alberta Innovation Corridor Partnership. She served as a Senior Advisor to Mayor Don Iveson, and has a great appreciation for policy development, city building, and history.
Darla Cowdell, Executive Assistant to the CEO & Office Manager, Edmonton
Darla brings significant experience in both the private and public sectors to the Invest Alberta Corporation. Her previous positions include working in several Minister of the Crown offices and, most recently, in the Office of the Premier of Alberta.
Jill Perras, Director of Corporate Operations
Jill brings proven leadership in building organizational capacity to the Invest Alberta Corporation. Prior to joining, Jill lead operations for an energy focused private equity firm with over $3bn of assets under management. Jill also worked for an arms-length government agency in policy development and implementation. Jill holds a Master of Management and Marketing degree from the University of Aberdeen.
Lindsay Chapman, Financial Law Student Intern
Lindsay is a JD candidate in the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. She brings a strong background in public policy, having held positions with the Government of Alberta, the Official Opposition in the House of Commons, the Government of Canada and Global Affairs Canada. Lindsay earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia, where she majored in Political Science and minored in International Relations.
