Boot stompin’ fun and business rodeos: Calgary Stampede brings high-value investors to Alberta

The rodeo is officially over and the cowboys and cowgirls are heading back home after a wild week of the Calgary Stampede. This year was a unique experience where everyone could gather again for good times and celebration – welcoming visitors from all over the world for 10-days of non-stop entertainment in the city.

At Invest Alberta we were more than thrilled to have both our national and international clients and partners join us for the Alberta Investment Forum at Calgary Stampede last week. We hosted a successful VIP Brunch bringing together industry leaders, executives and senior government officials to network and engage about potential growth opportunities in the province.

Our Invest Alberta board chair, Scott Hutcheson, kicked-off the morning introducing the Premier of Alberta, Jason Kenney, who highlighted the vibrancy that the Calgary Stampede brings to the city and the heritage behind how it became what it is today. Kenney spoke to why Alberta is the best place to bring investments not only because of its welcoming environment and livability, but he also stated to investors, “You are in the fastest growing economy in Canada, one of the fastest growing in North America, the fastest growing population in Canada – right here in Alberta.” The Premier set the tone for the morning, enticing our guest to learn more about why Alberta is the best place to bring their business.

We were also very proud to have our board vice chair, Anne McLellan, sit down with the Honourable Minister of Jobs, Economy and Innovation, Doug Schweitzer, and the Honourable Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, Jason Nixon, for a fireside chat discussing the strengths, opportunities and challenges ahead for Alberta.

Closing off our fireside chats, Nicole Foster, Head of Amazon Web Services Public Policy Canada, joined Invest Alberta CEO, Rick Christiaanse, to highlight Amazon’s experience in Alberta and the continued support from the province since locating to Calgary.

Bringing the VIP Brunch together was an all-around team effort and we would like to thank and recognize our local supporters who helped make the morning run smoothly – thanks to the teams at OneWest Events, T2722 Luxury Barista Experience and the Hudson event space for making this event one to remember.

Alberta is a clear destination of choice for many investors, and we are proud to be part of the investor journey for many companies interested in the province. The Calgary Stampede is only one of many opportunities we have to showcase Alberta to investors from various industries, to explore and learn about its advantages in each leading sector.

We look forward to seeing the benefits and outcomes from our VIP Brunch, stay tuned for future updates and announcements.
