Statement issued by Rick Christiaanse, Invest Alberta CEO
Invest Alberta joins Deep Sky in celebrating this important milestone in their groundbreaking Deep Sky Alpha project, supported by a $40 million grant from Bill Gates’s Breakthrough Energy Catalyst (“Catalyst”) fund. This marks Catalyst’s first-ever investment in Canada, and we are thrilled to see it happening here in Alberta.
This also marks Catalyst’s first-ever investment in a Direct Air Capture (DAC) project, underscoring Alberta’s position as a global leader in innovative, sustainable energy solutions. This initiative sends a strong message to the world that Alberta is the best place for companies focused on addressing climate challenges. The project will bring new opportunities to the province and the Town of Innisfail, including temporary construction jobs and permanent roles tied to the operation and development of these cutting-edge technologies.
We congratulate our client, Deep Sky, whose bold vision and commitment to innovation make scalable carbon removal technologies possible. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Deep Sky and other innovative companies and welcoming them to Alberta’s thriving hub for climate technology and sustainable innovation.
