Bison Low Carbon Ventures Opens Meadowbrook Carbon Storage Hub in Legal, Alberta

Bison Low Carbon Ventures has officially opened the Meadowbrook Carbon Storage Hub, a major milestone for carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) development in Alberta.

Located near Legal in Sturgeon County, Phase 1 of the project is licensed to store up to 500 kilotonnes of CO2 per year, with plans to expand to at least 3 million tonnes annually. The storage hub represents an initial investment of approximately $17 million, with plans to grow to nearly $150 million.

“The opening of Meadowbrook shows that Alberta can turn CCUS ambition into real projects, real operations and real investment.” – Keith Bradley, Acting CEO, Invest Alberta.

Invest Alberta supported this project by providing ongoing support to Bison Low Carbon Ventures and engaging directly with the Marubeni Corporation team in Tokyo. As an innovative, first-of-its-kind facility in Canada, Bison Low Carbon Ventures demonstrates Alberta’s leadership in advancing impactful solutions for energy production.
